A suitcase’s shell material and closure system are different specifications. An aluminum frame does not necessarily mean an all-aluminum shell, and a zipper alone does not describe the shell’s strength.
Read the material description
For example, Ashard L999 combines a 100% polycarbonate shell with an aluminum frame. L888 uses a 100% polycarbonate shell and YKK zipper. Compare the complete specification rather than assuming the whole case is made of the material named in one feature.
Check weight and expansion
| Model, S size | Weight | Capacity | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| L999 | 3.45kg | 40L | Aluminum frame |
| L888 | 3.3kg | 35–45L | YKK zipper, 6cm expansion |
Choose by your journey
If you want extra room for purchases, an expandable model is worth comparing. If you prefer a frame-style opening, check the locking and opening mechanism, then compare the weight you will carry. No closure type alone guarantees that a suitcase cannot break or be opened by someone else.
Before you buy
Check the selected size’s external dimensions, packed weight, wheels, handles and warranty terms. For flights, expansion and cabin eligibility require separate checks against your airline’s rules.
Browse aluminum-frame models, YKK zipper models and expandable suitcases.
From comparison to a shortlist
Compare L999 for an aluminum frame, L888 for a YKK zipper and 6cm expansion, or 669 and L333 if front access matters most.
Is every expandable suitcase fitted with a YKK zipper?
No. Expansion and zipper brand are separate specifications. L888 explicitly names YKK in its current specification. For other models, confirm the specification rather than assuming the same zipper is used.
Do I need to choose a larger size?
Compare the packed items with the selected size's capacity and weight. Use the two-night packing guide to make a shortlist, then read the product size table.
